A huge amount of planning and organisation goes into any construction project, whether you’re putting an extension on your house, renovating your garden or expanding your business premises. The cost, the time, the blueprints for your planned work – this needs to be meticulously organised before the project starts in order to avoid any blips or unwanted surprises that could hamper or derail your project entirely.

Estimating the amount of concrete that you need for a project can be very difficult, but with the necessary care and calculations, you can ensure you’re not left with too much or too little for your objectives.

What type of concrete do you need?

As well as working out how much concrete you need, the right type of concrete is crucial to any project. There are various types that suit different types of construction plans – some concretes may be ideal for use in commercial projects, while others are more suited to domestic work.

You may need concrete for your driveway, or you might be renovating your garden and require some concrete for your new patio, in which case, it would be recommended that you use C25 concrete.

For commercial work, you will need a concrete mix that is specifically created for that type of work, such as C40 concrete. It can be very confusing to work out which type of concrete you need, which is why we have compiled some of our most commonly asked questions in our resource centre.

We have created a comprehensive guide to the different types of concretes that are available for domestic and commercial projects, helping you to make the distinction between them and work out which ones are best for your particular project. Have a read of it here.

How much concrete do you need?

Working out how much concrete is required for your project uses different equations, depending on whether you need a slab of concrete or a trench. To make it as easy as possible for you, we have created a concrete calculator that you can use to estimate how much concrete you’ll need.
