Whether you work in the construction industry or you’re simply trying to lay the perfect shed base at home, you will know just how important having high-quality concrete is to the success of any construction project. However, it’s not always easy to tell straight away if the concrete you’re working with is in fact high quality. That’s where concrete cube testing comes in.
The first thing we do is test the workability and flow of the concrete using a slump test. This simply involves pouring concrete into an inverted cone, and then turning it upside down and letting it pour out.
Once the slump test is complete and you’re sure the concrete is workable, we can then do a cube test. Usually three cubes are taken from each sample using moulds that comply with BS EN 12390-1:2000. After applying a mould release agent, the cubes are stored in a dry place, before being moved to a curing tank after 16-72 hours.
The samples are then tested at both 7 and 28 days using a calibrated compression machine, The machine exerts force on the concrete until it breaks, demonstrating the maximum strength of the concrete.
EasyMix provides concrete cube testing as part of our typical service all across London, so if you want to be sure that you’re working with the best standard of concrete, all you have to do is get in touch.
